Appeal

`As our recent struggles in the post have shown, Socialist Worker plays a very important role. It puts workers in touch with one another like no other paper.' These were the words of a postal worker recently involved in fighting against management attacks. It could easily have been spoken by rail, council or health workers who face similar assaults.

Socialist Worker is the weekly paper of the SWP. Along with our monthly magazine, Socialist Review, it reflects the anger and bitterness that working people feel after 17 years of Tory rule. It voices the unease that people feel about where Tony Blair is taking New Labour and combines news, debate, views and analysis. Socialist Worker reports and builds support for every strike and campaign against injustice. It points out the real divisions in society those of class between the minority who own nearly all the wealth, and the majority of workers who struggle to make ends meet.

As the general election nears we need to ensure that a clear socialist voice is heard above the banality of politicians on both sides.

Socialist Worker has no rich bankers supporting it. We rely on our readers and supporters in order to survive. This year we aim to raise £150,000 for our fighting fund. Can you give a donation and ensure that socialism has a voice over the coming months?

`I support this appeal one hundred percent. Without my subscription to the Socialist Worker I would have none of the well researched, critical, often wonderfully angry and journalistically excellent view from the left that the Socialist Worker provides. It gives tabloid journalism a good name.'
John Pilger, journalist and author

`I congratulate the SWP for all its support and solidarity during the 11 month long dock strike. Political legislation ensures that anti-union laws, deregulation, privatisation and employment contracts are universally imposed on the working class. Disputes like the docks dispute shouldn't be left isolated to fight alone and all should campaign to prevent this. The working class should rally to support disputes. Socialist Worker has been instrumental in leading the way and that is why everyone should support the fighting fund.'
Jimmy Nolan, chair, Mersey Docks Shop Stewards Committee
